Stoke City are said to be keen on Nottingham Forest academy star Adam Berry and hope to recruit the 19-year-old in the summer.

According to a TEAMtalk “exclusive”, the Potters are likely to face competition for Berry’s signature from at least two other Championship sides, plus one in Europe.

They report: “Berry is set to depart Forest when his contract expires this summer and interest is ramping up ahead of the transfer window, so he won’t be short of opportunities.

“TEAMtalk understands Berry has been offered a new contract by Forest but is seeking regular first-team football and regular game time to aid his development.”

Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers have also been linked with the Manchester United youth prospect, while Belgian Pro League side Westerlo are also understood to be watching developments.

TEAMtalk add: “Stoke have held a long-standing interest in Berry, and Mark Robins’ side are still very keen and have kept tabs on his situation as the summer approaches. He would be seen as a great option due to his ability and the fact he is available for free.”

Stoke sporting director Jon Walters explained recently that the club’s ongoing concerns with EFL spending limits meant they were likely to target young players and loan recruits in rebuilding the team under Mark Robins, and Berry would seem to fit that profile.

He said: “Ideally you don’t want loans, you want to own your own players and build your squad, but you have to deal with the situation you’re in. A year before we spent £15m-plus on players and we didn’t have that luxury last summer so we have to be smart and bring in the right players.

Every single Championship club will be in for the same kind of player and we’ve got to understand what suits the Championship and players who can go from this level to the Premier League as well. We’re probably been too far the other side in the last couple of years or however long – seven or eight years, too far one way.

“We’ve got to build a team of athletic, powerful players that have the character to really drive us, then sprinkle with a bit of flair on top. I think fans will really take to that. If we do that we’ll start to see the Stoke identity that we want.”

Born in Manchester, Berry is a former England under-17s international can play on the wing or in a number 10 role and had a trial at Rangers before opting to join Forest.

He put pen to paper on a one-and-a-half year deal at the City Ground in February 2024 after quitting United the month before and announcing his Carrington exit on social media.

He had made his debut for United’s under-18s as a 15-year-old and in total spent 12 years with the fallen Premier League giants before opting to move on.
