‘In real peril’ – Blackburn Rovers vs Sheffield Wednesday ‘New’ kick-off time, prediction, team news, lineups: The72

Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday meet in the Championship on Tuesday night with both sides set to end the season in mid-table.

Blackburn Rovers come into this midweek clash with Sheffield Wednesday in dismal form.

Valerien Ismael has led Rovers six times and after drawing his opening match with Norwich City, he’s overseen five consecutive defeats. The Ewood Park faithful are already calling for change with vitriol directed towards the club hierarchy too.

Blackburn’s top six have fallen away as a result of their poor form. They’re now 12th in the Championship table and eight points away from the top six.

As for Sheffield Wednesday, they head to Blackburn Rovers level on 52 points and only behind in 13th on goal difference.

The Owls are experiencing off-pitch wrangles of their own. At the time of writing, the first-team players are yet to be paid and it puts Wednesday at risk of a three-window transfer embargo.

On-pitch, Danny Rohl’s side are without a win in three. A last-gasp Charlie Hughes header condemned them to a 1-0 defeat against Hull City over the weekend.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is going to be an odd game. The mood at Blackburn Rovers is abysmal with manager Valerien Ismael’s dismal start continuing and it is accepted that their play-off hopes are finished now.

“Sheffield Wednesday though, they’re in real peril. It clearly impacted them at the weekend and you can’t help but feel the continued uncertainty is going to linger and linger, even if the players are paid and an embargo is avoided.

“Ultimately, I think that makes for a tough watch. It’s going to be tough to pick a winner and while Wednesday have more fight in their squad, I think both leave with a point.”

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Harry Mail

“Blackburn Rovers haven’t recovered from John Eustace’s exit to Derby County. Valerien Ismael hasn’t been able to make an impact since his move.

“The Lancashire side have seen their results slump recently. Confidence will be low and their season is starting to peter out.

“Sheffield Wednesday have their off-field issues but showed fight against Hull City, despite their defeat. SWFC could have scored a couple if it wasn’t for Ivor Pandur in the Tigers’ goal.

“That game could have gone either way in truth and if the Owls have the same fight and desire at Ewood Park, they may get a win. The Owls have been strong on their travels in this campaign.”

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday
