Ex-FIFA official blasts VAR after Raskin footage in Rangers loss v Hibs – ‘Wrong’

Ex-FIFA official blasts VAR after Raskin footage in Rangers loss v Hibs – ‘Wrong’

Barry Ferguson will have been pulling his hair out watching Rangers crash to yet another defeat at Ibrox against Hibernian on Saturday.

Somehow, the Bears now haven’t won at home in over two months, as Dylan Levitt and Martin Boyle made sure the three points headed back to Edinburgh.

Nicolas Raskin has been inspirational in recent wins in Europe, but like many, has struggled when returning to Scottish Premiership action.

VAR blasted as Raskin incident all wrong

Keith Hackett has insisted that VAR was wrong to check a strong challenge from the Belgian international on Nectarios Triantis.

The ex-FIFA official admits it was a yellow card offence, at worst, and VAR can only intervene when classed as serious foul play, and shouldn’t have held up the game.

“The referee was in a good position to judge this challenge and allowed play to continue,” Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News.

“The challenge at worst was reckless, a yellow card offence.

“It was not a red card offence or serious foul play; therefore, under the criteria, VAR was wrong to intervene and check replays and hold up play.

“VAR cannot intervene on yellow card offences. They should therefore be able to carry out their check without any public announcement.”

Raskin could leave Rangers

At a time when it appears to be one step forward, then two back for Rangers, this result did not shock anyone who was at Ibrox.

Ferguson has done a cracking job with the resources he has, winning at Celtic and preparing for a Europa League quarter-final against Athletic Bilbao.

Raskin will need to be at the top of his game for these games, if there are any hopes of progression.

With Leeds and Aston Villa circling for the midfielder, who could cost £20million at least, the incoming new owners will have a big decision to make instantly.

Nils Koppen has made it no secret that a trading model for profit is in place, so Rangers may be entering the final couple of months with Raskin in their midfield.
