‘No chance’: Celtic star refutes suggestion he could move to Rangers after being offered deal

Whilst crossing the Rangers and Celtic divide is unthinkable for most supporters, it’s something that has been done several times.

No fewer than 20 players have played for Rangers and Celtic, a remarkable stat when you consider just how fierce the Old Firm rivalry can be.

But that doesn’t mean that any Rangers or Celtic stars who choose to make that switch will not be subject to immense scrutiny.

Now, one Celtic star has refuted suggestions that he could move to Ibrox after speculation over a potential switch.

’No chance’ Celtic star would move to Rangers

Northern Ireland youth international Francis Turley is one of the most prominent young players coming through at Celtic.

Having signed a three-year deal with the Parkhead side in 2022, Turley joined his boyhood club from League of Ireland side Glentoran.

This season, the 19-year-old made his debut for Celtic way back in August, coming on to replace Reo Hatate in a Scottish Premiership clash against St Mirren.

But speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, the midfielder has revealed he turned down the chance to move to Rangers such is his loyalties to the Parkhead club.

“Everyone from where I am from supported Celtic so signing for them was a bit mad,” Turley explains.

“I had a few options, a few in Scotland — Aberdeen and Rangers — and a few in England — Ipswich, Burnley and others.

“But I wanted the Celtic move to work out. Rangers wasn’t going to happen, no chance.

“I’m living my boyhood dream, my family support Celtic and now I’m at the club.”

Celtic defender Greg Taylor tipped for Rangers move

Francis Turley isn’t the only Rangers-linked player currently plying his trade at Celtic either.

Rangers have been tipped to move for out-of-contract Celtic left-back Greg Taylor when his current deal at Parkhead expires come the end of the season.

Kris Boyd tipped Rangers to move for Taylor with the bluenose left-back not always getting the plaudits he’s been due at Celtic Park.

“If you’re Rangers, would you offer Greg Taylor a contract?” Boyd asked.

”Just when you think of (Ridvan) Yilmaz and Jefte. I think Greg Taylor has shown for a consistent period of time now how consistent he has been.

”If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he said he want to play football, he wants to play regular. Could we see him switch sides in Glasgow?”

Craig Moore also urged Rangers to consider Taylor, with the Ibrox side’s left-back options Jefte and Ridvan Yilmaz a tad inconsistent at times this season.
