‘A big blow’ – John Eustace confirms new Derby County injury concern
Derby County boss John Eustace confirmed Ryan Nyambe has re-injured his hamstring after coming off against Preston North End.
Derby County picked up another huge win on Wednesday night, defeating Preston North End. Craig Forysth and Jerry Yates scored for DCFC in the 2-0 win.
It makes it four consecutive Championship wins for the Rams, who have now climbed out of the relegation zone.
Relegation remains a very real prospect, but their improved form has come at the perfect time and it has increased confidence in manager John Eustace after his challenging start to life at Pride Park.
However, it didn’t all go to pan for Derby County on Wednesday night as right-back Ryan Nyambe was forced off just a matter of minutes into his return to the starting XI.
And, speaking post-match, Rams boss Eustace confirmed that the re-emergence of his hamstring issue was the reason behind his early withdrawal. The DCFC boss told Derbyshire Live that Nyambe will now undergo scans to determine the extent of the new blow.
“It’s a shame for Ryan,” the Derby County boss said.
“He’s had a bad time with injuries since we’ve come in. He’s trained really well for the last couple of weeks, looked sharp coming into the game, so losing him after two minutes is a big blow.
“We’ll have to see how he is tomorrow after the scan. It’s his hamstring, so hopefully it won’t be as bad as we think, but we wait and see.”
Fingers crossed…
Nyambe has had an injury-hit campaign with Derby County, limiting him to just 17 Championship outings overall.
A knee ligament injury kept him out for around three months and when available. He’s started regularly since. Be it as a full-back or wing-back, Eustace has not hesitated to call upon him.
However, this hamstring issue is one that has been managed over the past month or so. Unfortunately, it may well have worsened now, though the hope will be that scans return welcome results.
In his absence
Nyambe was replaced by Kane Wilson in the opening minutes on Wednesday night and it will be expected that he takes his place in the starting XI against Swansea City this weekend too.
Wilson is a like-for-like replacement at wing-back so it shouldn’t force a change in system for Eustace. He is a little more attack-minded than Nyambe though, so that is something the boss will have to keep in mind.
Otherwise though, DCFC may well be unchanged in a bid to continue their impressive vein of form. Five wins in a row would go a long way to sealing their Championship status after a tough campaign back.
