The three big summer Wolves transfer deals already in the pipeline – including £30m move for Everton man
A look ahead to the upcoming transfer window and what Wolves fans can expect
Wolves have the chance to add some fresh faces to their squad when the new summer transfer window opens for business.
It is expected to mark Vitor Pereira’s first full season in the dugout and gives the Portuguese an ample opportunity to try and reshape the team in his image after inheriting the post from Gary O’Neil in December. The Molineux faithful will see this window as a prime opportunity to improve the playing staff after a substandard season which has seen the club face its most difficult battle to survive in the top-flight since winning promotion under Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, most fans will also be wary over the sales of any standout performers as the rumour mill continues to focus on the future of Matheus Cunha, with Champions League clubs seemingly queuing up to try and sign the talented Brazilian international. With that in mind, we take a look at the latest transfers that are in the pipeline at Molinuex and the main stories fans need to keep an eye on.
Wolves plot bargain move for £30m Everton ace
It has been reported by the Daily Mail that Wolves are one of a few clubs currently showing interest in experienced Everton centre half Michael Keane.
The 12-time England international, who was bought to Goodison Park from Burnley for £30m back in 2017, has racked up 226 appearances for the Toffees but has fallen well down the pecking order under David Moyes after making just 10 league appearances after falling behind Jarrad Branthwaite and James Tarkowski in the pecking order.
Keane is approaching the end of his contract at Everton and is seen as a natural successor to veteran Craig Dawson, who is expected to be released at the end of the campaign.
A marquee midfield signing
BirminghamWorld reported last month that Wolves were interested in returning to the table with a fresh approach for talented Real Betis midfielder Sergi Altimira.
The West Midlands side already made one statement of intent by convincing Joao Gomes to sign a new long-term offer, in a move which silences interest from Spurs.
However, they remain admirers of Altimira, who has impressed in La Liga in recent seasons. The 23-year-old is a solid holding midfielder, who could fill the void left by Mario Lemina after his January exit to Turkey.
A club-record departure
Premier League leaders Liverpool are expected to compete with Arsenal for the signature of highly-rated Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. The Brazil international has found the net 15 times in 29 appearances this term and has been a catalyst in Wolves’ survival bid with his technical qualities, goal-scoring instincts and creativity.
He signed an extension in January but is believed to have a release clause of £63m inserted into his existing contract. Cunha recently hinted at a potential exit in an interview with The Guardian, where he said: “We’re close to achieving our goal. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles. For big things, I have potential.”
The interview was seen as an unnecessary distraction from Wolves’ survival bid with a crunch game against Ipswich on the horizon. But Cunha has since insisted his aim is to help Wolves improve.
He added: “I don’t think a lot of people read the interview, and I don’t think that people have the correct interpretation. Of course the point was talking about Wolves, to show everyone how happy I am to be here, to play for this team, to play for these team-mates and of course give back all the love that they give to me. Ambitious players, of course we want to play for something more, to put this club in another level, and of course me and my team-mates will give our all to achieve this goal.”
