Stoke City handed relegation verdict with one win needed to decide fate as day of destiny looms
So often over the past few seasons, it has been a late run of decent results that has saved Stoke City from League One oblivion.
Three weeks or so ago, Potters fans could have been forgiven for thinking that this late upturn in fortunes was not coming to their rescue this season. The manner of Stoke’s defeats at Coventry City and Millwall suggested the only luck Mark Robins and Co would be getting this time round was bad luck.
But at least the gloom had been tempered by a crucial home win over Blackburn in between Coventry and Millwall, plus a goalless draw at the bet365 Stadium against Watford. It was enough to keep Stoke’s head about the relegation waterline.
The big question now is can Stoke sustain that uptick in form for their remaining games to ensure thoughts of relegation were just a bad dream to be shrugged off and quickly forgotten about.
In the wake of the win of QPR, Stoke boss Robins said: “The thing most I’m proud of today is they’ve gone out and put in a really good performance. I thought it was a solid performance. For about 65 minutes I thought it was really good, a really good Championship performance.
