Ipswich Town keeper Muric fined £21k after admitting driving offences

An Ipswich Town goalkeeper has been fined after pleading guilty to two driving offences.

Arijanet Muric, 26, of Playford Road outside Ipswich, pleaded guilty before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to driving without insurance and driving whilst on his phone.

The keeper, who was signed in July, was driving a Bentley Bentayga in Ipswich’s St Margaret’s Street on Wednesday, August 14 when he was caught.

The driving incident took place three days before the Blues’ first Premier League game of the season against Liverpool, which he did not feature in.

Muric, who was not present at the hearing before magistrates, was fined £21,412 for the offences and has had six points added to his licence.

Initially offering a plea of not guilty, this was later changed to a guilty plea which was taken into account during his sentencing.

As well as the fine, Muric was ordered to pay a £2,000 surcharge, as well as £110 in legal costs, bringing to total amount owed to the court to £23,522.

Ipswich Town signed Kosovan international Muric from Burnley in the summer 2024 transfer window in a deal worth about £8million, with the potential to rise to £10m.

The shot-stopper has had a difficult start to life at Portman Road in his first season, and was dropped from the first team in December in favour of Christian Walton.

The Blues then signed keeper Alex Palmer in January as a replacement after Walton suffered an injury, ruling him out for some time.

Muric has three years left on his contract at Portman Road.

This week, Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna revealed that Muric had suffered an injury to his shoulder while on international duty for Kosovo and will require surgery.

The injury is expected to keep Muric out of action for a “good period of months”, McKenna told a press conference.

Ipswich Town declined to comment on Muric’s convictions.
