Exclusive: Aston Villa finally secure new deal for exit-linked sensation

Aston Villa forward Rory Wilson has agreed a new two-year deal to end speculation over his future, sources have told Football Insider.

The striker made the move to Villa Park back in 2022, when Wilson signed for the Premier League club after coming through the youth ranks with Rangers.

Having completed that move, the striker then signed his first professional contract with the Midlands club when he turned 17 back in January 2023.

That deal had been due to expire at the end of this season after months of expectations on the prospect of an extension ultimately failing to produce results, putting Aston Villa at risk of losing him for only a reduced compensation fee this summer.

Rory Wilson agrees new contract at Villa Park

Football Insider understands that Wilson has now agreed a new contract with the Premier League club, that secures his future until the end of the 2026/27 season.

That has ended any risk of the 19-year-old leaving Aston Villa this summer in what will be seen as a major boost to the Midlands outfit.

Although Wilson is yet to make his senior debut for Unai Emery‘s first-team, he is believed to be well thought of in the corridors of power at Villa Park.

The teenager has also been a regular feature for Aston Villa at both Under 18s and Under 21s level, where he has already proven to be a reliable source of goals.

That form has also seen the teenager win caps in several different age group at international level for Scotland, and he has already appeared in the Under 21s side for his national team.

Aston Villa will hope for further contract agreements

Securing the future of Wilson will be a boost for the club, who have already generated sizeable fees from selling other young players.

Those include Omari Kellyman who was sold to Chelsea for £19million last summer, and they are now in a position to generate a similar fee for Wilson if they are to part with him.

Of course, they could also look to exploit the talents of the young striker themselves now this contract has been agreed, and they will hope this is not the only deal they get done in the near future.

Aston Villa are also making big moves to agree a new contract for Boubacar Kamara, in what would be a major coup as the midfielder attracts significant transfer interest from a number of big clubs.

If they can build on this Wilson deal with other similar agreements, that will help the club to back up the success they are continuing to enjoy on the pitch under Emery this season
