Unai Emery takes firm Marco Asensio and Marcus Rashford Aston Villa transfer stance

Unai Emery was reluctant to discuss Marco Asensio’s future ahead of the final two months of Aston Villa’s campaign.

The Spaniard has been in excellent form since joining Villa, scoring seven goals in his last five matches across all competitions and bagging braces in three successive home games.

Marcus Rashford and Axel Disasi have also impressed on loan at Villa, with all three players set to play key roles in the final stretch of the season. Villa are aiming to progress past the FA Cup and Champions League quarter-finals while also competing for a top-five finish in the Premier League.

Given what’s at stake in the coming weeks, Emery was hesitant to discuss the possibility of signing any of them on a permanent basis this summer.

“I think it is not the moment for it,” Emery said when asked about signing Asensio. “I think it is not the right time to speak about it. Of course, he is performing very well. Of course, we are happy.

“But we still have two months left to play for a lot of things. Now is not the time, because two years ago I was calling him to bring him here as well. It means he was always in my mind. But football changes so, so quickly.

“We have to play on Sunday, we have to play on Wednesday, we have to play next Saturday, and we have to play in the Champions League against PSG.

“We need to focus on the matches ahead because whether or not we achieve our objectives will make a big difference. It is not the same.

“And of course, I want the best from Disasi, I want the best from Donyell Malen, I want the best from Andres Garcia, I want the best from Rashford, and I want the best from Marco. Then, we will analyse each individual situation and make our decisions.”
