Mark Robins makes emphatic point on referees as Stoke City move on

Stoke City, according to figures shared between Championship clubs, are top of the table when it comes to big decisions being called wrong against them this season.

But Mark Robins, even if he drew a deep breath when reminded about it, is pulling a veil over the controversial injury time penalty winner at Millwall last time out, when Ben Wilmot was accused of holding Josh Coburn by underfire referee Andy Davies.

It added to a long list of complaints – and subsequent apologies from the referee’s body – this term topped by a Bae Junho winner for Stoke at Queens Park Rangers for alleged handball and not spotting a blatant foul by Millwall’s Jake Cooper on Wouter Burger in the reverse fixture that should have resulted in a red card and penalty.

He said: “There are obviously reasons for things but we’ve got to help ourselves too. Decisions have gone against us, there’s no two ways about it, but there’s no point dwelling on any of that because it doesn’t help. Whatever we can do that is in our control to help us get the required points that we need, then we’ve got to try to do it.
