Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner: ‘Eberechi Eze’s goal was fundamental in FA Cup win over Fulham’
Oliver Glasner said that Eberechi Eze’s goal was fundamental in Crystal Palace’s FA Cup quarter-final 3-0 win over Fulham on Saturday.
The Greenwich-born England international scored in the 34th minute to put the Eagles in the lead at Craven Cottage, curling a stunning right-footed shot from distance beyond Bernd Leno.
Fulham had been the better side before Eze scored for Glasner’s side.
The former QPR attacker has just two goals in the Premier League this season but scored his first goal for England in midweek in their win over Latvia.
Eze assisted Ismaila Sarr for the second and Eddie Nketiah scored a third as Palace reached the last four of the FA Cup.
“Ebz has had quite a strange season,” said Glasner.
“He hasn’t had many goals in the Premier League, but he has had many chances.
“He was so unlucky in many situations, having disallowed goals and deflected balls or hitting the post.
“He was also struggling with strange injuries to his foot.
“The goal against Latvia, his first goal for England, means a lot to him as a person.
“He always has the confidence. We all know he has an amazing finish and that he can cut in on his right foot – it was an amazing finish at the far post.
“We need this quality, especially with finishing. It helped us today.”
Glasner spoke to Eze after he was replaced in the 90th minute for Matheus Franca.
“I told him that this goal helped us a lot today,” said Glasner.
“We had more and more belief from this goal. It was so fundamental today.
“Everybody could feel that it didn’t work as we wanted to do at the start. His goal was his individual quality that scored this goal.
“I told him that it helped us.”
