Boost for Wolves as player steps up return from long-term absence – Will play before end of season
Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Enso González is set to return to the first team before the end of the season as he steps up his injury recovery.
That’s according to journalist Christian Martin, speaking to Versus, who reports that there are positive signs that the 20-year-old will be stepping up his return from a long-term absence.
González signed for Wolves from Libertad in a €6m deal in August 2023 but has only made one, one-minute appearances in the first team in May 2024.
He has not been seen in the first team since after suffering a cruciate ligament tear in July last year, an injury that has seen him miss 43 games and spend 310 days on the treatment table.
He is not expected to return until the beginning of June this year, with it believed that he will miss the entirety of this season through the injury.
Martin has been insisting for some time that will not be the case, reporting that González was determined to return as soon as possible, despite Wolves working to ensure he does not rush his recovery.
Martin now reports that the next step is in sight for the player, and there is confidence he will feature this year.
“Look, Enso, he’s going to start playing football with the team, I understand, in about ten days, two weeks,” he said.
“He’ll be discharged in April, and he’ll be wearing the Wolves jersey before the season ends, I have no doubt about it.
“On Tuesday, count on Enso González for the U-20s, and Wolves Hampton too. I hope we have the official discharge, already playing football 100% available.
