‘A force’ – Nottingham Forest tipped to seal stunning £63m Wolves transfer raid amid Champions League claim

Wolves are sat in 17th place in the Premier League table as they look to retain their top flight status. Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town sit below them in the bottom three and all look set for an immediate return to the Championship. Vitor Pereira’s side are currently nine points above the relegation zone.

The Midlands outfit have nine fixtures left to play this season. They won 2-1 away at Southampton in their last match before the international break. Striker Jorgen Strand Larsen scored twice for them against the Saints as they secured a big three points.

Wolves star Matheus Cunha latest regarding Nottingham Forest links

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a summer swoop for Wolves star Matheus Cunha. The Reds may well be playing Champions League football in the next campaign. As per Football Insider, he has a £62.5million release clause.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has told their report: “I think they can afford it. I think they are looking as though they’re going to get the Champions League. I think that’s almost nailed on right now. I would say that Forest have got a great chance to do that, and I think they’ll complete the season and get it done. I think Cunha would be an amazing fit for Forest. I think that really makes them quite a force. Certainly, with the Champions League I think that would be attractive for him to go there.”

Losing Cunha would be a huge blow for Wolves and it would be hard to find someone to step into his shoes. He has been a hit since joining them and is their most prized asset. The 25-year-old initially joined on loan back in 2023 before his switch was later made permanent.

Will Matheus Cunha stay at Wolves?

Cunha penned a new deal in February and Wolves’ Chairman Jeff Shi said: “Matheus has been on an amazing journey with us over the past two years and it’s been a privilege to see him grow into a big part of the Wolves family. Matheus has a good relationship with everyone at Compton Park, his personality is infectious to those around him, and we hope this new contract will provide a boost to the group.

“We can all see his quality on the pitch, but off it he’s developed into a leader of the group, and we’re delighted that he’s signed a new contract. It’s always important to us that we reward our strongest and most impactful players, and Matheus deserves this new deal.”

He has scored 31 goals in 85 games so far for his current club, 15 of which have come this season. Prior to his switch to Molineux, he had spells at FC Sion, RB Leipzig, Hertha Berlin and Atletico Madrid. It remains to be seen whether he will be sticking around beyond this campaign or heading elsewhere for a new challenge.

Wolves are back in action next Tuesday with a home clash against West Ham as they look to get another three points on the board. Their upcoming opponents turned to former Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man Graham Potter as their manager back in January.
