Many of Sunderland’s top players have been away on international duty lately, including Jobe Bellingham, Eliezer Mayenda, and Trai Hume, who have all been playing for their countries.

Chris Mepham, the centre-back for the Black Cats, was praised by the Welsh media for being

“strong” and excelling while playing for his country.

Unfortunately for the Black Cats, Sunderland full-back Hume was left out of Northern Ireland’s

team, therefore not all of those key players survived the break.

This means that when Sunderland hosts their old manager, Alex Neil’s Millwall, on Saturday

afternoon, Regis Le Bris may have to rearrange his defensive lineup.

Chris Rigg, a 17-year-old Black Cats youngster who has recently achieved a significant milestone,

was another player who attracted attention on the global scene.

Chris Rigg’s statement after scoring on England Under-19s debut

With a 1-0 victory over Portugal on Tuesday night, England’s under-19 team concluded their

March international break undefeated. Sunderland star Rigg scored the game-winning goal early

in his debut for Will Antwi’s team.

The youthful Portuguese defence was unable to stop Spurs forward Mikey Moore’s low cross

into the area, and Rigg scored from close range.

Shortly before the half, Rigg was sent off, and Joshua King took his place with ten minutes

remaining as the Young Lions maintained their lead and qualified for the Romanian finals

this summer.

Following the match, the Sunderland star said on social media: “19s debut, winning goal,

into the Euro finals.”
