A medical checkup revealed that the manager of Coventry City also has Parkinson’s disease.

Aidy Boothroyd, the former manager of Coventry City, has disclosed that he has been dealing

with Parkinson’s disease since receiving a diagnosis three years ago.

The 54-year-old, who coached England for seven years, including as the Under-21s’ manager

before resigning in 2021, made the heartbreaking announcement in a statement issued by the

League Managers’ Association. More well-known as a manager, Boothroyd played for Bristol Rovers,

Mansfield Town, and Peterborough United for the majority of his playing career. Prior to moving to

Norwich City and subsequently West Brom in 2003, he began his coaching career with Posh.

“I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s three years ago,” he told the LMA. After what I assumed would be

my usual LMA Annual Health Assessment, I was completely taken aback by the news.

“I have found it challenging to not be totally honest with people, and it has taken me some

time to feel ready to share my diagnosis.” I still have the same enthusiasm and joy for coaching.

In order to decrease the progression of Parkinson’s disease, I am concentrating on maintaining my physical fitness.

“I’m prepared to begin the next phase of my life.

I express my gratitude to Parkinson’s UK and the LMA for their assistance.
