Lilywhite Rose: Daniel Levy ’99 per cent set to sack Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham
Ange Postecoglou looks all but certain to be replaced as Tottenham manager by Daniel Levy.
Spurs could be set to begin yet another season with a brand new manager in the dugout.
Should Levy sack Postecoglou, the 62-year-old isn’t short on potential replacements. Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be willing to quit his job with the USA to return to Tottenham.
Meanwhile, Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Thomas Frank could all be potential options.
Even Brendan Rodgers has emerged as a shock option to replace Postecoglou at Tottenham.
However, the 59-year-old will be keen to ensure this doesn’t happen, although it is looking increasingly unlikely that the Australian will remain in charge next season.
Postecoglou needs to win the UEFA Europa League at Tottenham
As reported by TBR Football on Monday 17 March, Levy has informed Postecoglou that he expects Tottenham to qualify for Europe next season as a minimum requirement.
Therefore, it is looking increasingly likely that Postecoglou will be sacked, with the UEFA Europa League likely Spurs’ only route into Europe next season considering their position in the Premier League.
However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has suggested that Postecoglou could be sacked even if Spurs win the Europa League.
“I don’t see any basis for keeping Postecoglou on,” Wenham said.
“There are plenty of managers who I think would get more out of this existing group of players. A lot of people will say give him a chance to win the Europa League.
“However, I cannot see us getting past Frankfurt, who comfortably dispatched of Ajax and are fourth in the Bundesliga at the moment. We’re going to get past them based on what, 15 defeats in the Premier League and 19 in all competitions.
“Sometimes you need to be realistic. They need to replace Postecoglou, and unless he wins the Europa League, which I don’t think will happen, I believe it is almost 99 per cent certain that Postecoglou will be replaced.”
Postecoglou is in serious trouble at Tottenham
If Spurs finish in the bottom half of the Premier League and fail to win the Europa League, it is difficult to make an argument for Postecoglou to keep his job.
Both of those things look likely to happen at the moment too. Therefore, it appears Postecoglou’s days are numbered.
