Sheffield Wednesday tipped to appoint 47-year-old amid Danny Rohl Southampton exit talks

Sheffield Wednesday could turn to Henrik Pedersen as their new manager if Danny Rohl leaves this summer, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Sheffield Wednesday may appoint Rohl’s number two as their boss later this year. SWFC will have a decision to make if their current head coach was to head out the exit door.

Pedersen, 47, has been part of the Owls’ backroom staff over recent times. They are currently sat in 12th place in the Championship table and are six points off the play-offs with eight fixtures left to play this season.

In this latest update regarding the Yorkshire outfit by journalist Nixon on his Patreon, the second tier outfit have placed Pedersen as a ‘prime candidate’ to replace Southampton-linked Rohl. He is said to be ‘liked’ by the club’s hierarchy and would come under consideration for the top job.

Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 1-0 at home by rivals Sheffield United last time out before the international break. Rhian Brewster scored the only goal of the game.

Sheffield Wednesday could turn to Henrik Pedersen

Sheffield Wednesday brought in Pedersen in October 2023 when Rohl took over.

He is an experienced coach and has worked well behind the scenes over recent times at Hillsborough.

The Denmark-born man didn’t have a playing career and worked as a coach with the likes of Holstebro Boldklub, Esbjerg fB and AGF before linking up with Red Bull.

Pedersen then had spells with Red Bull Salzburg and Red Bulls Salzburg before leaving the organisation in 2014.

He went on to have stints as the number one with HB Køge, Eintracht Braunschweig, Strømsgodset and Vendsyssel FF before Sheffield Wednesday came calling, as well as spending some time in the coaching set-up of Union Berlin in the Bundesliga.

It would be a massive blow for the Owls to lose Rohl when this campaign ends.

Prior to his switch to England, he cut his teeth at Bayern Munich, Southampton and with the Germany national team.

Rohl kept Sheffield Wednesday up last term against the odds and his team are now eyeing a place in the top six.

Danny Rohl update at Sheffield Wednesday

Time will tell whether the Owls will be able to retain the services of their popular manager. Pedersen has emerged as a contender to take over though.

Sheffield Wednesday are back in action next weekend away at Cardiff City.
