I was terrible at Sheffield Wednesday but I’m proud of my comeback and Middlesbrough career
When Lukas Engel reflects on his Middlesbrough career, there’s a real sense of pride.
It’s true, the Dane appreciates, that he maybe didn’t set the world alight on Teesside, and didn’t quite enjoy the level of success that he hoped for when making the move from Silkeborg in 2023. He couldn’t stress more after his move to Cincinnati in January – initially a loan with an option to make it a permanent at the end of the current MLS season – that he wishes things could have gone differently as far as success on the pitch was concerned.
There is pride though. Pride that he represented Middlesbrough at all. But also pride because of the way he managed to overcome what proved to be such a difficult start. Axed at half-time at Sheffield Wednesday after a tough start to life on Teesside, you’d have been forgiven at the time for questioning if we’d ever see Engel in a Boro shirt again.
