Only one team can stop Leeds United now, and it’s not Sheffield United or Burnley
Leeds United are top and have eight games to keep it that way after the international break, with Sheffield United and Burnley breathing down their necks.
Just eight matches remain in the regular Championship season, and like last season, Leeds are top of the league during the March international break.
This time, they don’t have a side behind them holding a game in hand, meaning they are top with the league title in their hands as things stand.
Leeds United’s remaining Championship fixtures mapped out
A draw to QPR wasn’t an ideal return from the weekend when both Sheffield United and Burnley won, even if Daniel Farke’s men came back from two goals down to draw 2-2.
With eight left, Leeds have the most favourable remaining set of fixtures left out of the top three, starting with Swansea City at home after the international break.
If Leeds were to reverse the results of the previous fixtures against their remaining opposition, they would end the campaign unbeaten, picking up 20 points from a possible 24 – ending on 100 for the season.
Right now, Leeds are top of the league because that’s where the deserve to be, having collected 80 points so far this season and being in a strong position going into the back end of the campaign.
Matching one of Sheffield United or Burnley’s results for the remainder of the campaign would be enough to secure promotion, and while that is a good barometer for what needs to happen, Farke’s side only have one team to be concerned over.
That team is Leeds United.
So far, Leeds have shown in every metric that they are the standout best side in the league, whether it’s chance creation or the amount of chances they give away, while having the most goals scored and the second fewest conceded.
With that, Leeds just have to maintain what they’ve been doing all season in order to lift the league title, and the only thing standing in their way is consistency and holding nerve – the ability to beat these teams is there and has been all season up until this point.
