The FA said that they had charged the 27-year-old with misconduct in relation to alleged betting

violations in May 2024, which involved four yellow cards he received between November 2022 and August 2023.

Paqueta’s charges have been well known since then, but his court hearing began on Monday,

causing the midfielder to miss international duty with Brazil.

The trial is likely to run three weeks, making it one of the longest court hearings in FA history,

and if proven guilty, the Brazilian faces a lifelong ban from English football.

former employer if he might miss the Hammers’ trip to the Vitality Stadium to avoid jeopardising the trade.

 

The Scotsman ignored Paqueta’s plea and played him for virtually the whole game until

replacing him deep into stoppage time, shortly after collecting the aforementioned yellow card.

Moyes will defend the midfielder against spot-fixing suspicions, claiming that the yellow card

could not have been arranged if he had no intention of playing.

While this provides a compelling defence for the Brazilian, tensions between the West Ham

camp and Lucas Paqueta are likely to remain as the hearing progresses, and the shocking
