Derby County must definitely have misgivings over his £2 million exit from Bristol City. He went on to be a big success.

Derby County’s 2014/15 season ended in sadness for the second consecutive season, and following Steve McClaren’s dismissal,

Paul Clement was brought in to lead the club back to the Premier League.

The Rams had begun to display their financial prowess under Mel Morris the previous year, but they took it up

a notch in the summer of 2015, signing Bradley Johnson for £6 million, Jacob Butterfield for £4 million,

and Tom Ince for £4.75 million.

As Clement adjusted to life as manager, hopes were high that the East Midlands club had a squad

capable of avoiding the play-offs and returning to the top flight on its own.

Derby’s major spending began early, and the signing of Andreas Weimann piqued fans’ interest,

although he never lived up to the reputed £2.75 million sum paid to move him from Aston Villa.

Weimann never really got going in Derby.
The Austrian arrived at Pride Park with the ability to play both out wide and in a more central position if necessary,

but he struggled for goals and assists from the start, failing to find the back of the net in his first

12 appearances as the Rams began the season strongly, losing only once in 15 Championship games.
