
Victor Anichebe, a former Everton striker, is associated with an unexpected takeover of a National League team
Former Everton striker Victor Anichebe has been connected with a surprise purchase of National League club Gateshead FC.
The former Toffee, who came through Goodison Park’s youth systems before making his debut at the age of 15,
would make 168 appearances for the Blues, scoring 26 goals in all competitions.
Anichebe left Goodison in September 2013 for West Bromwich Albion, where he spent three years until joining
Sunderland in 2016. Our sister site Chronicle Live contacted Gateshead FC after talk surfaced online about a
potential takeover at the Heed, with Anichebe spotted at the International Stadium on several occasions and
linked to a syndicate preparing the takeover.
Cooper added: “The person doing the deal with Frank’s agent and Frank had no jurisdiction to do the deal,
because as far as I’m aware he doesn’t yet own Gateshead. Really disappointing from
Gateshead’s side of it and feel sorry for Frank really, but he wanted to go.
“He made it clear he wanted to go and play for Gateshead. We granted that wish,
but it’s fell through so we’ll wait to see what happens.”
Chronicle Live contacted the club regarding Cooper’s comments and if there was a possible takeover in the works,
but were told: “No comment.” They were also given a response of “no comment” when
