Captain Lyndsey Harkin expects Nottingham Forest to make “astronomical progress”

Captain Lyndsey Harkin expects Nottingham Forest to make “astronomical progress”

The Reds’ first opportunity to win a trophy this season comes on Saturday, when they face Stoke City in the Women’s National League Cup final at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium.

It may be the first step toward a league and cup double for Forest, who lead the National League Northern Premier Division by five points with four games remaining.

“We just have to keep pushing on,” Harkin told BBC East Midlands Today.

“We’ve beaten Stoke twice in the league, but we won’t be complacent because we know a cup final offers different challenges. We have nothing to lose in this game, so we must go all out.

The Reds have not lost a league game and have won 15 of their 18 third-tier fixtures since making the transition to full-time professionalism last summer.

Harkin is the club’s longest-serving player, having made over 300 games for them after spending six years with Doncaster Rovers Belles in the Women’s Super League.

Harkin has previously led Forest to a double, winning the National League Cup in 2023 before going on to win the league championship.

That league success, however, did not result in automatic promotion, as it does now, and they lost the promotion play-off final against Watford.
