Jack Grealish Man City transfer latest – Aston Villa demand amidst Newcastle and Arsenal interest

Jack Grealish has recently emerged as a potential target for Newcastle United. The 29-year-old winger has been heavily linked with an exit from Manchester City recently as he continues to struggle.

While Grealish, who sees his contract at the Etihad Stadium expire in June 2027, has featured 26 times across all competitions this season, he’s started just 14 games. The England international has played just 1,319 minutes, averaging about 50 minutes an appearance.

Since joining Man City from Aston Villa in August 2021 for a then-British record £100m fee, he’s struggled to live up to expectations, scoring just 16 goals in 151 matches. So, with that being said, the Manchester Evening News have rounded up all the latest news and transfer gossip on Grealish.

Grealish ‘open’ to Newcastle switch

According to the Chronicle, Grealish is open to joining Newcastle United. The report claims the Man City winger was recently offered to the Magpies ahead of a potential move in the summer transfer window.

It’s said that Grealish believes Eddie Howe can help him transform his fortunes after a difficult couple of years at the Etihad Stadium. The England international has eyed a place in Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The Chronicle add that Grealish, who was recently pictured in the North East at a Washington social club, would be keen on a permanent move to the region. That said, it remains to be seen whether he fits the bill for Newcastle, with Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes already on the left wing.

Terry urges Grealish to make decision

Speaking on talkSPORT this week, John Terry urged Grealish to make a decision on his future. The Chelsea legend said: “He needs to look at his options, because Man City have not been great this year and he’s still not getting a look-in.

“So from his side, I’d be a little bit worried and go, ‘I need to get out,’ because England means the world to him. And I have to say, all eyes are on Jack always, it’s difficult, he’s a young boy with a lot of pressure on his shoulders. I think it will be good for him to weigh up his options.

“I’m not saying to leave Man City, because they’re one of the top teams in the world. But I think he needs to ask questions, ‘Am I going to be part of this in the future?’, but Jack is an unbelievable talent, and I think he’s at his best when he’s got the freedom, and I think he needs a manager to give him the license to go and be Jack Grealish.”

Shearer assesses Grealish situation

Alan Shearer believes Grealish has been given a wake-up call after he was left out of the latest England squad. The Newcastle legend said: “It’s really tricky. First and foremost, he’ll want to get back into the Man City side and only he can determine that.

“I don’t know what’s happening or not happening in training. You hear one or two bits from Pep Guardiola saying Jack Grealish may not be quite happy with what’s happening at City. As a player, when everything is not rosy you have to think, what’s best for me and what’s best for the team?

“Do I have to get my head down and win my place back or is it best that I go elsewhere. Only Grealish will know that. Grealish is at a great football club and has had huge success but being left out of this England squad will be a wake-up call for him.”

Guardiola sends Grealish warning

Last month, Guardiola told Jack Grealish to fight for his Man City future. The Spaniard said: “I want much more. This is the level I would like to see from Jack. But it has not been like that.

“Clubs bring new players in every season. I don’t have the same squad as when I arrived nine years ago, or when we won the Treble or Quadruple or the 100 points. We have four, five, six players, not more than that. It’s normal.

“Players have to understand that. No new contract makes a player better, it’s competition in the locker room and on the pitch that makes the players better. They have to feel that. You have to fight with Savinho, the impact he has had this season is amazing.

“Jeremy Doku is incredible, a top player as well. Phil Foden can play on the left as well, that’s the point. It’s never against a player from my point of view. It’s OK, accept the challenge, prove you are the best.”

When Aston Villa fended off

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal were interested in signing Grealish in July 2020 – just one year before Man City paid £100m for his signature. The report claims Aston Villa were not prepared to sell the Englishman for anything less than £80m at the time.

It’s said that numerous clubs were willing to pay between £50m and £60m for Grealish, who ended up staying at Villa Park for another 12 months. The Gunners had failed to qualify for the Champions League that season, missing out on millions in revenue meaning they couldn’t pull together the funds for a bid.
