Five players not good enough for Rangers stay as club heads into bold new 49ers era
Big changes are expected at Rangers with the 49ers Enterprises-led consortium set to take over.
The US takeover of Rangers is getting closer and expected to be completed by May, with the consortium poised to buy 51 per cent of the club and therefore a controlling stake.
Healthcare mogul Andrew Cavenagh is part of it along with the 49ers enterprises and was present as Gers beat Fenerbahce in the Europa League.
It has already been suggested significant funds will be made available for Rangers to spend in the summer transfer market.
That brings excitement to fans as they lick their lips at the prospect of some of the stars that could be lured to Ibrox ahead of a possible title challenge next season.
What it also means is that some of the fringe men who are already low on game time might need to move on, so we’ve taken a look at some who may be surplus to requirements.
Robin Propper
By his own admission, Propper is not suited to the Scottish game as he struggles with the physical side and aerial duels. He did however claim that we would get better and more used to the Premiership, but that has not happened and he has continued to struggle – often hooked early in games. Rangers need better at centre-back and a summer exit would not be a surprise.
Leon King
It is sad, but Leon King’s time at the club will likely be coming to an end. At one stage seen as a potential start of the future for Rangers, the game time simply hasn’t been there in recent years and he really should have been allowed to leave sooner for the sake of his own career. Playing on loan at Queen’s Park in the Championship at the age of 21 suggests King won’t be making it at Rangers unfortunately.
Nedim Bajrami
A good technical player who initially looked like being a good addition when he was signed from Sassuolo last summer. But flits in and out of games and, like Propper, doesn’t appear to like the rough and tumble of Scottish football.
Ross McCausland
As with King, it is unfortunate that it doesn’t seem to be working out for another Auchenhowie product. McCausland was exciting when he first broke through as his pace and directness was different to anything the first team had at the time. But his lack of action this season in an underperforming side tells a story.
Tom Lawrence
Lawrence’s Rangers career won’t be looked upon as a total failure as he definitely contributed at times. But hasn’t played enough due to injuries and in more recent times the games he have played have been underwhelming to say the leasts.
