Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White told Thomas Tuchel he deserved England call-up
Morgan Gibbs-White, who was only brought in at the last minute, convinced Thomas Tuchel,
the new England manager, that he should be part of the German’s first team in charge.

Given his part in sending Nuno Espirito Santo’s team to third place in the Premier League,
Tuchel’s decision to leave the Forest captain out of his squad on Friday was unexpected.
But on Sunday, Gibbs-White was called up due to an injury to Cole Palmer, giving the 25-year-
old a reprieve.
“I was obviously unhappy. Yes, I’m a little let down,” Gibbs-White admitted to the BBC.
“I responded to him by saying, ‘Given the form level we were in, I think I did enough to get the
call-up, but obviously you’re the manager, you make the decisions, and I absolutely accept that.
“So, obviously, it was disappointing but then Sunday I got the call, so I was straight here.”
Under interim manager Lee Carsley, Gibbs-White made his first two appearances for the Three
Lions.
But players like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and Palmer will compete fiercely for his spot on
Tuchel’s team.
According to Gibbs-White, “the standard of players is top level.”
“He (Tuchel) called me and asked, ‘Are you still angry with me, or would you like to come and
train with us tomorrow?'”
