Arsenal told to pay more than £40 million to sign 25 G/A Premier League striker Ollie Watkins

Arsenal may have to bid more than £40 million to land Ollie Watkins if they were to angle a move for the Aston Villa striker in the summer.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal will have to pay more than £40 million to prise Ollie Watkins in the summer should they make another effort to land the Aston Villa striker. The Gunners are in the market for a new marksman, with the England international part of their list only that he is not seen as a priority signing.

Arsenal are in the market for a new striker and will make big efforts to land their priority targets. Mikel Arteta’s side fell off in the Premier League title race without absent attackers as many have blamed their inability to land a new centre-forward during the winter transfer window.

Back in January, Arsenal made a late attempt to sign Ollie Watkins, although the move coincided with Aston Villa’s plans to sell Jhon Duran. The Colombian international eventually left for Saudi side Al-Nassr, which may have forced the Birmingham-based side to keep Watkins, especially given the timing of Arsenal’s bid.

Arsenal are still interested in Watkins ahead of the summer, although the forward, who has contributed to 25 goals this season, may not be their utmost priority. The Aston Villa man is a boyhood Gunners fan and would be open to joining them, although the north Londoners may not come with the same vigour of their January chase.

In any case, should Arsenal return for Watkins, Aston Villa are set to demand more than £40 million for the 25 G/A Premier League striker. Whether the 29-year-old warrants that level of investment from the Gunners remains to be seen, especially given his age and the probably years at the top of the English game.

Arsenal not prioritising Watkins

While Ollie Watkins remains a name on Arsenal’s striker shortlist, the Aston Villa man may not be at the very top of their priority. The Gunners are open to paying big for Alexander Isak, with the Newcastle United star seen as Mikel Arteta’s No.1 target.

Benjamin Sesko is also a big target for Arsenal and could be right behind Isak in that pecking order. There are links to other names, and one might suspect where Watkins is placed. With incoming sporting director, Andrea Berta set to take the transfer duties on him, he will be tasked with landing a top draw centre-forward at all costs in the upcoming summer window.
