Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday face FA sanction after Hillsborough incident
Sheffield Wednesday could face a sanction from the FA after missiles were thrown during their derby clash v Sheffield United, according to Keith Hackett.
The former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA official exclusively told Football Insider that the police are likely to intervene after reviewing footage from cameras focused on the supporters.
This incident came during a hotly-contested clash which saw six players handed yellow cards, three for each team, as well as trouble from the stands.
United ultimately ran out the 1-0 winners at Hillsborough thanks to Rhian Brewster’s winning goal which has taken them level on points with Leeds at the top of the league.
Wednesday, meanwhile, saw their playoffs hopes dented as they remain six points shy of West Brom, who currently occupy the final playoff place.
Andrew Kitchen forced to deal with crowd in Sheffield Wednesday v Sheffield United
In a game packed with incidents, the trouble from the crowd is likely to be assessed long after the full-time whistle as the FA and police work punish the offenders.
Referee Andrew Kitchen picked up an object thrown from the crowd and handed it to security as the players were subject to threats from the stands.
Additional security and stewards were then deployed to the area from which the objects were thrown following the incident, in an attempt to control the crowd.

Wednesday now face punishment after crowd trouble
Wednesday were previously investigated by the FA for throwing missiles at players during their 2-0 defeat to Leeds United in March, and the same is expected to take place now.
Hackett, who was present at the Sheffield Derby, explained that they are now “certainly” at risk of receiving a punishment for this latest incident, while police involvement is also likely.
“There will be a special incident report to the the authorities,” he told Football Insider.
“The referee takes an object, a coin thrown from the stand, to the security.
“I notice additional security have moved into the area.
“The police will have videos trained on spectators to see if they can catch the offender who threw the object.
“The club are certainly at risk of receiving a sanction.“
The most likely outcome of an investigation into crowd trouble would see Wednesday handed a fine and a warning about the future conduct of their fans.
The Owls’ next game comes following the international break as they face a trip to Cardiff on 29 March, while their next home game is not until 5 April against Hull City.
