Villa set to hijack Hammers move for former gooner
Aston Villa are reportedly ready to beat West Ham to the signing of AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers were heavily linked with the 22-year-old USA international when he was making waves at Valencia. Former West Ham director of football Tim Steidten identified the dynamic midfielder as the solution to the squad’s lack of ‘legs and energy’ in midfield.
Judging by the pedestrian nature of some recent West Ham performances, a lack of pace remains a clear issue. The Hammers were completely overrun by a quicker and more athletic Newcastle side in last Monday’s 1-0 defeat.
The New York born youngster was previously on Arsenals books and has family in London. Claret & Hugh were told by a top club source in January, “We’re looking for a quick and energetic midfielder,” and Musah certainly fits that description.
West Ham manager Graham Potter has also stated, “We don’t want to undo all the scouting work the club have done in the past.” Therefore, renewed interest in the midfield dynamo can’t be ruled out—although AC Milan’s £25m price tag could prove problematic.
