PSG’s Luis Enrique makes surprising admission about Aston Villa ahead of Champions League clash – Clearly a fan of Unai Emery

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has admitted he is a big fan of Aston Villa and has watched them plenty of times this season already.

Foot Mercato cover comments from the PSG boss today after he was asked about Aston Villa during a press conference.

The two sides are set to face each other in the Champions League quarterfinals at the beginning of next month after progressing through the last 16 this week. PSG saw off Liverpool while Aston Villa were comfortable winners against Club Brugge.

Aston Villa will travel to Paris for the first leg of the clash on April 9th before then hosting the French champions at Villa Park on 15th April.

Both sides will very much be eyeing up a place in the semi-finals of Europe’s biggest club competition having impressed in the competition so far.

Indeed, Aston Villa have taken to European competition like a duck to water under Unai Emery’s guidance, with the Spanish coach establishing himself as something of a European expert during his career to date.

The tie will also have an added edge as he takes on one of his former clubs, and current Aston Villa star Marco Asensio comes up against the side who sent him on loan to Villa Park in January.

Enrique is more than aware of the dangers too, admitting that he’s watched his upcoming opponents already this season.

“We knew we were going to play against them,” he said.

“I know Aston Villa because I watched a lot of matches as a football fan. Now, I’ll look at the moment differently to analyze the difficulties this team is facing.

“They’re one of the best teams in Europe because they’ve qualified for the quarterfinals. We’re going to encounter difficulties, that’s for sure.

“I know Unai, I know how he analyses the game, he’ll be one of the coaches who will pose the most problems, he’s well prepared, he knows us. He’s a successful coach.”
