Concerning the Rangers star’s season and performance against Fenerbahce, Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton really concur.
At the end of Thursday night’s thrilling penalty shootout victory over Fenerbahce, Rangers players and supporters had only one man to thank. After a strong performance in Istanbul the previous week, the Light Blues entered the match with a 3-1 aggregate lead over the Turkish powerhouses, but in typical Rangers fashion this season, they failed to build on their strong showing and lost yet another game at Ibrox, their fourth straight. Fenerbahce was the superior team, winning 2-0 after 90 minutes, but that forced extra time and then penalties. Jack Butland, however, saved two of Fenerbahce’s penalties to send Rangers to the Europa League quarterfinals.
Sutton and Boyd have opinions about Jack Butland.
After Butland’s late heroics, Rangers supporters, who had previously criticized him quite a few times this season, praised him on social media.
Like the rest of Rangers’ first team, Butland hasn’t played at his best this season and hasn’t shown the kind of play that won him Player of the Year the previous year.
Chris Sutton acknowledged the criticism in his interview with The Warm-Up, but he also commended the former Manchester United goalkeeper for his performance on a crucial night for Rangers.
