‘Awful’ message fired as Stoke City pay the penalty at Millwall
Stoke City suffered a heartbreaking defeat away to Millwall after a controversial late penalty saw Mark Robins’ men lose 1-0.
In the second minute of added time Ben Wilmot was penalised for hauling down Josh Coburn at a long throw-in. Up stepped Milhailo Ivanovic who nervelessly found the top corner of Viktor Johansson’s net.
It is a result that lifted Millwall to eleventh but meant the Potters remained four points above the bottom three ahead of this afternoon’s matches.
It was also a result that angered Stoke City supporters, not so much for a performance that showed good determination and organisation, but because of referee Andy Davies’ decision.
1972stokie: I’ve just seen the penalty … six of one half dozen of the other. No different than a lot of similar things … that were not given all afternoon. Nuts …
davidcs: Hopeless absolutely.can’t score, can’t defend, can’t win a game.they always concede in the dying minutes.absolutely pathetic players.
oK: Never a penalty ! But the wasted sitter from Burger and overall horrible display in the 2nd half dooms them once again ! They just never learn !
Stokie_mick: A game of two half’s again, what is annoying against milwall at home we had the most obvious penalty yet never given to us, here today it was given. Stoke you have to start playing for ninety minutes, one good half is just not good enough, last two Saturday games lost in the last minute.
Rubium14: I’m just sick to the back teeth of this. Throwing games away in the dying extra time mins. Gibson and Wilmot should never wear a Stoke shirt again.
Oyezman: Every pundit on Sky said extremely harsh. Even their manager agreed it wasn’t by saying it balances out throughout the season
wiseobserver: Can’t keep blaming the ref – 90 minutes minimum in a game that’s when it has to be won
stopyamoaning: Awful ref fried to play on but on a fifty/ fifty he gives a soft penalty just not going our way . You have to see that game out .
Swisspotter: Softest of pens and if those were given consistently, there would be about six per game. Another match where we probably ‘won’ on xG but not where it matters!
