Nathan Jones pokes fun at Stoke City in a subtle way as Charlton Athletic gains ground.

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones made a sneaky dig at his former Stoke City team after the

Addicks defeated Crawley Town on Tuesday night.

Jones was appointed manager of Stoke City midway through the 2018/19 season, following his

outstanding performance in League One with Luton Town in the first half of the season.

He led the Potters to 16th position in the Championship before taking over as manager at the bet365 Stadium for his first full season in 2019/20.

Stoke came to Crawley for an EFL Cup fixture in September 2019, which the home side won after a penalty shootout. According to the BBC, Jones was unreservedly critical of his players following the game.

“For 45 minutes, that’s as bad a performance as I’ve had since I’ve been a manager,” Jones joked.

The Welshman extended his side’s unbeaten run in League One to five games in West Sussex, with the 1-0 win propelling them to fourth position in the rankings and putting them only five points from the automatic promotion places. Charlton have been in fantastic form in recent months, losing only two of their past 19 league games, and they will no doubt be optimistic that they can continue to put pressure on the clubs above them between now and the conclusion of the season.
