Derby County loanee handed Young Lions call-up after impressive form
Derby County loanee Harrison Armstrong has earned an England u18s call-up after impressing at Pride Park since joining from Everton in January.
Eighteen-year-old Armstrong has featured in Derby’s back-to-back wins against promotion chasing Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City, starting both games.
The midfielder picked up the Player of the Match award for the team’s 2-1 victory against Blackburn at Pride Park which drew high praise from head coach, John Eustace who commended the “mature performance”.
Eustace said post-match: “Harrison was outstanding for his second start in the Championship at age 18. I thought it was a real mature performance against two very good midfielders against him in there and a good number 10.
“I was very proud of his effort. We spoke in the week on a few things that we need to improve on with him. He’s certainly taken that on board and we’re very fortunate we have him here.”
The victories have kept County within a point of safety as they continue to chase Cardiff City in 21st place to avoid relegation to League One next season.
Now, the teenager will join the Young Lions squad as they face Czechia, France and Portugal in their first fixtures of 2025, starting from March 21.
Armstrong has featured in England’s youth set-up previously when he was selected for four friendly matches against Germany, Poland, Ukraine and Sweden in November 2024.
