After the club fires the manager, a former Derby County captain gets their first managerial position.
After Barnsley fired Darrell Clarke, former Derby County captain Conor Hourihane was named
interim head coach until the conclusion of the season.
The Tykes have made the decision to fire the former Cheltenham manager, who departs Oakwell
with the team eight points outside of the playoff spots and in 10th place in League One. After serving as
Clarke’s assistant until leaving Derby last summer, Hourihane has been promoted to head
coach and will be in charge for the rest of the season.

“We would like to thank Darrell for his efforts in a season that has been difficult for various reasons,”

despite Darrell’s tremendous efforts to get the team competitive and pushing for promotion.”
“Darrell is someone I respect and have enjoyed working with, and I’d like to thank him for his efforts this season,
” said Sporting Director Mladen Sormaz.
“We will take some time to make sure the next appointment is the correct one,
with an emphasis on playing identity and going back to high pressing and aggressive football,
even though a list of successors has been identified.
