After a six-month break, a former Portsmouth and Birmingham player returns to football as non-leaguers pull off a stunning upset.

After being away from football for six months, Liam Daish is back on the south coast.
In order to help player/manager Danny Hollands with their Southern League Premier South campaign,

the reputable coach has partnered with Gosport.

After resigning as coach of Pompey’s professional development phase in the summer of 2022 due to

dissatisfaction with the team’s progress under owners Tornante, it represents a professional return to the area.

In November 2022, he was hired as Academy manager of Birmingham, a move that was warmly

welcomed by the team’s supporters at the time.

The 56-year-old Leigh Park native, who rose through the ranks and made three appearances for the Blues,

has now joined Gosport.

After joint-managers Pat Suraci and Joe Lea left for Poole Town, Hollands was named manager in January.

Since then, football operations manager Mark Summerhill has been helping him out temporarily,

but he has been looking to expand his coaching staff.

With a Uefa A coaching license and a plethora of experience managing the Hawks,

Welling United, Ebsfleet, and Nuneaton Town, Daish is a perfect fit.

After five years on the south coast, he returned to Fratton Park in 2017 to work in the Academy

before growing dissatisfied with the direction of the young setup.
