In order to participate in Soccer Aid for UNICEF 2025, former Derby County head coach Wayne Rooney is scheduled to
return to Manchester United.
Since leaving Plymouth Argyle in December, the 39-year-old, who was a BBC pundit on Sunday’s Match of the Day,
has not had a full-time job. After leaving the Devon club, he has made an effort to keep himself occupied
and was featured on Amazon Prime’s coverage of the Champions League.
In addition to Rooney, several other former professional football players will play in the match,
which is scheduled for Sunday, June 15. Other confirmed players include David James,
Joe Hart, Jermain Defoe, Gary Neville, Jill Scott, Toni Duggan, Leonardo Bonucci, and Steph Houghton.
The non-football players that have been involved thus far include Alex Brooker, Louis Tomlinson, Mo Farah,
Paddy McGuinness, Sam Quek, Sam Thompson, Tom Grennan, Tyson Fury, and Vicky McClure.
Dermot O’Leary and Alex Scott will be on presenting duties, and more players are anticipated to be named soon.
