Rangers made a fortune by selling a European hero who is now worth less than Raskin.
Glasgow Rangers haven’t had a lot of success this season. The Ibrox team has been eliminated from the Scottish and League Cups,
is 16 points behind their bitter rivals in the Premiership title battle, and will not take home any domestic hardware.
Even the most hopeful Rangers fan will believe that winning in Europe is out of their grasp,
notwithstanding Barry Ferguson’s masterful 3-1 victory over Fenerbahce in the Europa League
first leg of their matchup in the round of 16. Vaclav Cerny has scored 17 goals across all competitions since
joining the team on loan from Wolfsburg, but the Gers are unlikely to be able to sign him permanently due to financial constraints.
The club has also benefited greatly from Hamza Igamane. The 22-year-old, who only cost £1.7 million from
Moroccan team AS FAR last summer, has already scored 13 goals in all competitions, even though this is his first season away from home. Since making his comeback to the starting lineup in October, Nico Raskin has been one of the most underappreciated players.
As of this writing, the Belgian has only missed two games since September, solidifying his position as a vital club player.
How Nico Raskin’s significance at Ibrox has increased
James Tavernier missed the game due to injury against Celtic at the beginning of the season, therefore Raskin was named captain.
