BREAKING NEWS: Cowboys Due to terms not being fulfilled, Robert Jones has declined to sign a one-year deal.
FRISCO, Texas: The Cowboys acquired depth on the offensive line by agreeing to a one-year contract with Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Robert Jones, following reports earlier in the day that Chuma Edoga had reached an agreement with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jones, 26, went undrafted out of Middle Tennessee State in 2021 and has spent the last four seasons playing guard for Miami.
He played left guard for all 17 of 2024’s games and gave up five sacks and 28 pressures in 1,080 snaps. Jones’ workload from the previous season was by far the biggest of his career, and he occasionally had trouble protecting passes, earning a 54.3 PFF pass blocking grade.
Jones played both left and right guard for the Dolphins in 2022 and 2023, starting 12 games while logging 588 left guard and 279 right guard plays. Jones gave up 23 pressures and five sacks during those two seasons.
After a successful training camp and reaching the 53-man roster in Miami, Jones played 71 snaps in one start for the Dolphins in 2021 but was largely inactive in his rookie season.
Jones attended Kansas’ Highland Community College for two years prior to playing his final two seasons at Middle Tennessee State. His hometown was Rockford, Illinois.
After Zack Martin retires, Jones will probably have competition from Brock Hoffman and T.J. Bass for the position of right guard.
Jones, Hoffman, and Bass all joined the league as undrafted free agents, so unless the Cowboys add another offensive lineman through the draft or free agency to compete for the position, the job will probably go to someone who wasn’t drafted.
