After Sunderland loses to Burnley in the PL Cup, Graeme Murty won’t “cane” the team’s youth.
Graeme Murty, the senior coach of Sunderland’s under-21 team,
says he wants more from his young team but has refused to blame his players
for Monday night’s loss to Burnley in the Premier League Cup. The team missed
out on a berth in the final eight.
The Black Cats missed out on a berth in the competition’s final eight after losing to Burnley
by a single goal on the road in the Premier League Cup. After playing well in the group rounds
of the PL International Cup, Sunderland recently lost by one point and missed out on the knockout stages.
Although he was upset to lose against Burnley in difficult circumstances, Murty clarified
that he would not “cane” his players for their valiant effort, but he also stated that he hoped
to see more from his team going into the Premier League 2 competition’s final games.
When asked if he was unhappy with the outcome, Murty responded, “Very.” “I believed
we accomplished enough to win the game. We dominated area and possession, had plenty of opportunities,
and didn’t put enough pressure on their goalie. The story’s title is that, despite the fact that we produced
some excellent opportunities and moved the ball really nicely, we lacked the cutting edge to truly punish them.
At moments, we were really, really terrific.
