Unai Emery’s team is attempting to snap a 78-year record in the Premier League matchup between Brentford and Aston Villa.
Aston Villa will be looking to snap a 78-year run when they play Brentford on Saturday night.
The West Midlands team is back in Premier League action after defeating Club Brugge
3-1 in the Champions League last 16 earlier this week, and while Unai Emery will be
keen to see Villa finish the job on Wednesday, their top priority right now is moving up
the top flight standings. Villa travel to the Gtech Community Stadium sitting in 10th
place in the table, now just four points ahead of their next opponents.
Villa defeated Brentford 3-1 in December, with a flurry of goals in the first half that
lasted 13 minutes proved to be the difference for the home team.
Villa will have won the league double over the Bees for the first time since the
1946–47 season if they maintain that success this weekend.
Moreover, neither club has won this match in a run of 15 meetings
across all competitions since that date.
With a 2-1 victory in a 2023 doubleheader and a 1-1 tie the previous two times they visited
Brentford, Villa is undefeated.
Brentford used to have the Premier League’s best home record towards the beginning of the season,
but that has since changed.
With just two points from their last six such games, Thomas Frank’s team has lost all six of them
, marking the longest run without a league home victory since 2006.
On a brighter side, Villa’s four points from their last nine away games in the top league
will serve as motivation for the Bees.
