Exclusive: Coventry City issued a clear transfer warning regarding Milan van Ewijk
Carlton Palmer, a pundit and ex-England international midfielder, has cautioned
Coventry City that they may need to achieve Premier League promotion to keep Milan
van Ewijk on their roster, as he has attracted interest from other clubs.
The 24-year-old is nearing the end of his second season at the CBS Arena after joining from
Heerenveen for an estimated £3.4 million in July 2023. Since then,
he has established himself as one of the most impressive full-backs at Championship level,
with his performance last season particularly noteworthy as Coventry, under Mark Robins,
fell short of a top-six finish. Since Frank Lampard’s appointment, Van Ewijk has
remained a constant presence, a decision that has turned out to be somewhat brilliant given
Coventry’s current pursuit of the play-offs.
This season, the ex-Dutch youth international has played in 35 Championship matches,
and his steady performances have apparently piqued interest. It has been reported that he
caught the attention of Fulham, a Premier League team, in January.
Earlier reports have also associated van Ewijk with clubs such as Roma and Galatasaray.
Van Ewijk’s contract with Coventry runs until 2027. In recent years, Coventry has
built a reputation as a selling club by allowing significant transfers of players such as
Viktor Gyökeres and Gus Hamer after not achieving promotion to the Premier League.
Thus, one might experience a feeling of potential deja vu during the summer.
