John Eustace issues Derby County injury update as key man set to miss Blackburn clash
John Eustace says Matt Clarke has returned to training following a slight knock but Nathaniel Mendez-Laing will be missing for Derby County against Blackburn this weekend.
Clarke picked up what looked to be a problem with his hamstring in the defeat to Millwall and subsequently missed the trip to face Middlesbrough last weekend.
However the centre-back has been back on the grass this week although Mendez-Laing will again be absent for the visit of Eustace’s former club this weekend.
The winger picked up a knock to his knee in training the day before Derby were due to face Boro and he will not be ready for Saturday, according to Eustace.
The Rams head coach said there were also another couple of players that they will need to assess ahead of the clash against Rovers at Pride Park.
“Clarkey trained today and it’s great to have him back in the group,” he said. “There are a couple who have struggled this week but we will assess them and we will know more tomorrow.
“Kane Wilson was back last week, but he has had six weeks out with a hamstring problem. We’ve got to really monitor him.
“We’ve got three games coming up next week so it’s important we get it right with him.
“Mendez will still be out at the weekend unfortunately.
“It’s a blow and we want as many players as back as possible, but he won’t be back at the weekend.”
David Ozoh (thigh), Curtis Nelson (knee), Dajaune Brown (hamstring) and Corey Blackett-Taylor (hamstring) are all long-term absentees.
