
The reaction of Jean-Philippe Mateta to the post-match horror tackle remark from the Millwall keeper
Since Liam Roberts contacted him after his horrific kung-fu kick during their FA Cup match,
Jean-Philippe Mateta has no ill will against the Millwall goalie.
After sustaining a “severe laceration” to his left ear, Crystal Palace striker Mateta required 25 stitches;
nonetheless, he hopes to recover in time for Palace’s FA Cup quarterfinal. Mateta contacted Roberts on Saturday evening.
It is known that the Frenchman wished the Millwall keeper well and harbored no animosity toward him. Mateta will now play for Palace against Ipswich on Saturday, but he might be fit to return when they play Fulham in the FA Cup following the international break.
“He is conscious and he is in the hospital,” Mateta and manager Oliver Glasner told BBC Sport following Palace’s 3-1 victory over Millwall. His ear appears awful. Given the severity of his injury, we wish him the best.
“We’re not particularly content. We can’t be truly joyful. Naturally, it’s a fantastic victory, and we go to the quarterfinals, but losing a player, particularly with a foul like this one, leaves you feeling conflicted.”
“To be honest, I was not interested in seeing it. I just seen it, and it’s awful. No player wants this, therefore I’m sure the goalie didn’t want to hurt JP in this circumstance. However, you are unable to accomplish it if you approach the ball with this level of energy and with the foot at this height. We all have responsibility for our health, and it’s quite risky.
