Scotland-eligible EPL striker scores in front of watching Steve Clarke as Nations League play-off looms
Steve Clarke, the head coach of Scotland, was in the stands on Monday night when a Scottish
-eligible striker scored in the FA Cup match between Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town.

Clarke will shortly announce his team for the Nations League play-off doubleheader against
Greece later this month, which will decide whether Scotland stays in League A or drops to League B.
Lyndon Dykes, Ben Doak, Ryan Christie, and Lewis Morgan are all doubtful for the match against
the Greeks due to injuries they sustained in recent weeks, which may allow for the addition of new players to the squad. Scotland’s back-to-back wins over Croatia and Poland in November earned
them third place in Group A1 and gave them a last chance to avoid relegation from the top division.
George Hirst, an uncapped player for Ipswich, may be about to receive his first call-up. With just one start and fourteen substitute appearances in the Premier League thus far this season, the 26-year-old’s campaign has been hampered by injuries.
He missed the beginning of the season due to a preseason knee injury that necessitated keyhole surgery. He made his first and only Premier League appearance in September, scoring in a 4-3 loss to Brentford. However, he suffered another knee injury in November, which prevented him from playing until the middle of January.
He returned to the starting lineup for Monday night’s FA Cup last 16 matchup against Forest at the City Ground, scoring three goals in three starts this season in front of Clarke. In the 54th minute, he put Ipswich ahead with a back post header from a corner, giving the Scotland manager something to think about before he names his team next week.
