Following Derby County’s departure, Paul Warne is added to the list of favorites for the open EFL position.
After the bookies decided to fire Shaun Maloney, who had been in charge for
just over two years after being hired during a challenging period for the team that
was demoted from the Championship and had a points deduction the previous season,
former Derby County head coach Paul Warne has entered the
bookies’ odds to take over at Wigan Athletic.
Maloney was fired after the team had only won once in seven games,
with their weekend loss to Reading serving as the impetus for his departure.

“In January 2023, Shaun was named Wigan Athletic Manager,
ushering in a very tumultuous chapter in the club’s history.
Shaun made sure the team returned to the third division with a strong fight,
even though he was unable to stop the club’s relegation from the EFL Championship.
“Furthermore, through a change of ownership in the summer of 2023,
Shaun stuck by the Club and helped us overcome an eight-point deduction and a
squad overhaul to retain our 2023/24 League One status comfortably with matches to spare.
