Everton have clear contract priority as 15 players could leave the club this summer
ECHO writers assess which of the Blues’ players they would work hardest to retain at the end of the season.
Everton will go through a period of transition this summer, with a team makeover and a stadium move on the horizon. Fifteen senior players are now on contracts that will allow them to leave the club in the summer, a situation that presents both risk and opportunity.

Here, ECHO writers consider which of the current Everton players’ contracts they would most like to see renewed.

In terms of personality, Seamus Coleman is the Everton player whose current contract is about to expire, but when it comes to on-field contributions, Idrissa Gueye has to be the best. Arriving for that fabled “sixty grand” sum, the Blues club captain is perhaps the best value pound-for-pound signing in Premier League history, and he is currently 13 games ahead of his old teammate Tim Howard, having set the club record for competition appearances.
The Republic of Ireland international is also just seven matches away from joining Dixie Dean and Leon Osman in Everton’s all-time appearance top ten, but given that’s more appearances than he’s had this season (four), the right-back, who turns 37 in October, is struggling to stay fit. Gueye, Coleman’s 11-month junior, has played 29 of the Blues’ 31 matches in all competitions thus far in 2024/25.
