BREAKING NEWS: Bayer Leverkusen muss im Spiel gegen Bayern München auf seinen Abwehrstar verzichten
Edmond Tapsoba missed Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-1 win at Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga Topspiel on Saturday, and now the Burkinabé faces a race to be fit for their UEFA Champions League game against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Speaking prior to their win against Eintracht, Xabi Alonso said: “We didn’t want to take too many risks. We’re waiting a bit, day by day,” before further clarifying that Tapsoba was absent due to thigh problems. “We hope he’s fit for Wednesday,” added the Spaniard.
Bayern Munich v Bayer Leverkusen: Who starts instead of Edmond Tapsoba?
In the event that Tapsoba doesn’t pass a fitness test for Wednesday’s game against Bayern Munich, Mario Hermoso will retain his place. The Spaniard was brought in on loan to replace the injured Jeanuël Belocian but has already proved a vital member of the squad on the left-side, deputising for Tapsoba against Eintracht.
Another option for Alonso would be to revert to a back-four and although it doesn’t play to Leverkusen’s strengths, a defensive duo of Jonathan Tah and Piero Hincapie would be likely, with Alejandro Grimaldo and Nordi Mukiele playing as full-backs.
