Aston Villa confirmed to be without four players for Club Brugge clash
Aston Villa’s injury list has been slowly easing ahead of facing Club Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Emi Martinez was taken off at half-time against Crystal Palace last week, but was fit to start against Cardiff City, while Boubacar Kamara was named on the bench having overcome a hamstring problem.
Villa were without Ross Barkley, Matty Cash Amadou Onana and Pau Torres, though all four are now closer to returning to action. Tyrone Mings was also absent from the squad despite being on the bench against Palace.
Emery will be asked for a team news update when he speaks to the media out in Belgium on Monday night, while Donyell Malen and Andres Garcia will be unavailable for selection as they were not named in the squad for the Champions League knockout rounds.
Tyrone Mings
Mings suffered a knee injury in the win against Chelsea, but was named on the bench for the trip to Palace last week.
Before Villa’s FA Cup tie with Cardiff, Emery told the media that Mings wouldn’t be involved, though he did not give an indication of when the centre-back would be able to return.
Possible return date: Unknown
Matty Cash
The right-back returned from an injury in Villa’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool last month, before he started the subsequent win over Chelsea.
After then missing the match with Palace, Emery said Cash could feature against Cardiff, but didn’t make the squad.
Possible return date: Club Brugge (A), Tuesday, March 4.
Ross Barkley
Barkley hasn’t played since coming off injured in the first half of the FA Cup third round game against West Ham in January.
He confirmed on X that he actually tore his medial collateral ligament in his knee, but he is not far from returning to action.
Possible return date: Club Brugge (A), Tuesday, March 4.
Pau Torres
Torres broke a metatarsal in the late December draw against Brighton, but is now back on the grass with the ball.
Possible return date: Brentford (A), Saturday March 8.
Amadou Onana
Before Villa’s draw with Liverpool 11 days ago, Onana said he was a couple of more weeks away from returning from injury.
Possible return date: Brentford (A), Saturday March 8.
